The area is rich in history, monuments and natural sights.
A visit to Pienza is a must: the first Renaissance Ideal Town conceived by Pope Pius II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini).
Siena and Arezzo are only 1 hour’s drive away.
The splendid gardens of Villa La Foce and Parco della Ragnaia, near San Giovanni d’Asso, are not far.
Less famous but very quaint are the towns of Castelmuzio, Petroio, Montisi and Trequanda.
Parts of the Via Francigena can be covered on foot, walking through small villages such as Buonconvento, San Quirico d’Orcia and Bagno Vignoni. Monte Amiata can be reached in half an hour by car. Great for skiing in winter and walking at high altitudes in summer.
For art and religious itineraries we suggest a visit to the abbeys of Sant’Antimo (near Montalcino) and of Monteoliveto Maggiore (Asciano). Only 4 km from Cosona is the Monastery of Sant’Anna in Camprena, with the frescos of the famous painter Sodoma.
There are many wine cellars in Montalcino and Montepulciano, where you can taste the Brunello and Nobile, the famous DOCG (a label which guarantees the origin and quality of a wine) wines of the area.
The area boasts many Spas: Bagno Vignoni, Rapolano, Chianciano Terme.
Cosona offers the services of a professional guide who can propose itineraries.
